| | | The following steps describe the Guided Setup process for Series3 and TiVo HD DVRs. If you have a Series1, Series2, or Series2 DT DVR, go to Running Guided Setup. |
| |
| | To get the most out of your DVR, we recommend that you have your cable provider install and activate CableCARDs. If possible, you should run Guided Setup two or three days before the installation appointment. This has two benefits: you can enjoy your DVR right away, and you ensure that the DVR can connect to the TiVo Service and receive the latest software updates before the installer arrives. |
| | If you do not yet have cable service, you can still run Guided Setup on the DVR to set up the connection to the TiVo service and download software updates, if available. Special instructions are included in the following procedure.
| | To run Guided Setup on a Series3 or TiVo HD DVR: |
| | Begin Guided Setup: Review service terms, activate service (if necessary), and enter your ZIP code. For more information, go to How Do I Begin Guided Setup?
| | |
| | If your DVR did not come pre-activated, we recommend that you activate your TiVo Service. DVRs purchased at the TiVo store always come pre-activated. If the DVR was purchased at a retail store, you can activate it online at www.tivo.com/activate.
| | Choose your TV programming source:
- Choose cable only if you are using basic cable or CableCARDs. - Choose cable & antenna if you are using basic cable or CableCARDs and a digital antenna. - Choose antenna only if you are only using a digital antenna as your programming source.
| | |
| | If you are waiting for cable installation, choose cable only (or cable & antenna if you have an antenna).
| | You will be prompted to install CableCARDs.
If you already have CableCARDs: Install them, get them activated by your cable provider, and then test the channels. Go to Installing CableCARDs in a Series3 HD DVR or Installing CableCARDs in a TiVo HD DVR for instructions.
If you are waiting for CableCARDs, or you are not going to use CableCARDs, follow the prompts to continue without CableCARDs. You may need to run Guided Setup again after CableCARDs are installed.
| | |
| | Choose the phone dialing options or network settings that the DVR will use to connect to the TiVo service:
| | |
| | Get setup information, choose a cable provider (if using Cable or Cable & Antenna), and set up channels: Go to Setting Up Channels on a Series3 or TiVo HD DVR for instructions.
| | |
| | If you are running Guided Setup while waiting for cable service, select all the default settings. When asked if you have Premium Channels, select No.
| | Get initial program information: During this call, the TiVo service downloads program information, including program titles, times, channels, and descriptions. For more information, go to Getting Initial Program Information.
| | |
| | When prompted, press the TiVo button to complete Guided Setup. The DVR has one day of Guide data, but will soon make an additional connection to the TiVo Service to get the full 14 days of Guide data.
| | |
| | When you receive your CableCARDs, insert the cards into the slots on the back of the DVR to start the installation. The DVR will prompt you to configure the CableCARDs. At this point, your cable provider can activate the cards and test the channels. Once the CableCARDs are activated, you will be prompted to repeat Guided Setup. Go to Installing CableCARDs in a Series3 HD DVR or Installing CableCARDs in a TiVo HD DVR for more information.
