Information about CableCARDs and Switched Digital Technology
| 25-11-42 | Search Reference Number |
Certain cable operators are adding new channel lineups on existing bandwidth through the use of switched digital technology. With this technology, channels are provided on demand, which means the TV, DVR, or cable box must send a request to receive each channel before the cable system will deliver it.
If you have received a notice from your cable provider stating that various HD channels will be unavailable to you as a CableCARD customer and suggesting that you turn in your CableCARD for a set top box, your cable provider is implementing switched digital technology.
What some cable providers do not let you know is that the cable industry is actively working on a device that will allow you to access these HD channels with your TiVo DVR. A Tuning Adapter that will enable switched digital channels to be viewed on your TiVo DVR is due out later this year. When this device is made available by your cable provider, you will once again have access to the full spectrum of HD channels your provider offers.
TiVo is working with the cable industry to make sure that our customers are provided with these adapters and taken through this transition as quickly as possible.
