How to download videos to your TiVo DVR

You can access video podcasts like the New York Times, the Onion, and CNET right from your broadband-connected TiVo DVR. And with the new TiVo Desktop Plus, you get access to hundreds of extra titles available from a variety of Internet feeds -- all for delivery to your TiVo DVR, all for free.

Downloading videos

With your broadband-connected DVR, you can download a huge variety of web videos quickly and easily.

Hide the steps

Press the TiVo button to go to "TiVo Central."

Select 'Find Programs & Downloads' > 'Download TV, Movies, & Web Video.'

Select "Browse other videos" and press the RIGHT arrow to move to the right side of the screen. There you'll find a list of content categories. Find one that interests you, and press SELECT.

You'll see a list of available titles in the chosen category. Remember, the number of titles available depends on whether or not you're using TiVo Desktop Plus:

  • If you have not yet installed TiVo Desktop Plus on a broadband-connected computer, the list contains titles available from TiVo partners like The Onion, the New York Times, and CNET.
  • If you have installed TiVo Desktop Plus on a broadband-connected computer, you'll also see selections from a variety of Internet feeds. These items have a computer icon next to them, which tells you that your computer must be turned on and running in order to download the item.

Select a video from the list of titles.

Select "Download This Program" to schedule the download, "Get a Season Pass" to receive all episodes of the program, or "Download Past Programs" to download a program that has already aired.

The program will appear in your "Now Playing List." (If you selected a past program to download, the program will appear within moments. Otherwise, your program will download automatically on the date that it airs.)
