Here are just a few of the TiVo all-stars that make this place so special.

Engineering - Software, 5 years

What do you enjoy most about working at TiVo?
I get to work on some fun stuff. One of the reasons I came here is that I get to work on a product that people know of. The culture is nice. There's a lot of work, obviously, but it's a relaxed environment. You can come to work in jeans and a t-shirt, and your schedule is set according to you and your manager. In terms of the actual work, there's a lot of technology at TiVo, so there's always lots of different projects going on, and lots of interesting things to do.
How is working at TiVo different from every other job you've had?
TiVo is a smaller company compared to where I worked at before. If you need help with things, whether it's company processes or if I need help from HR, I can just walk down to HR and actually talk to them. At my old job, I'd have to contact them through an email address or talk to them through a call center.
What would you say to someone that's reading this right now and considering applying for a job at TiVo?
Come work here. It's a fun place. There's lots of interesting people that you can get to know, and lots of smart people to work alongside of. There's a lot of work to do. It's fun to be a small-ish company that's having a big impact on the way people watch TV.
And finally, what are your interests outside of work?
I'm an avid baker. I like to bake cakes and stuff like that.

What do you enjoy most about working at TiVo?
The freedom I'm basically being afforded. I started off at a relatively high level and my boss gave me a fair amount of leeway to be able to move down to different pieces that interested me.
What can you say to college graduates that are considering a career at TiVo?
I highly recommend that you try applying even if it might not be an entry position because we need fresh blood. Coming straight out of school gives you an advantage (in so far) as the problems that are initially going to be thrown your way are relatively similar to some of the coursework you've seen in school.
How has working at TiVo affected or influenced the way you watch television?
I actually watch TV now because I can skip through all the ads. It's also like a one-stop shop; rather than going to my computer and switching on Netflix or Hulu, I can just stream it directly. And I can unify it with one remote and one interface, as well.
And finally, what are your interests outside of work?
Building random things, like model airplanes.

Engineering - Consumer design, 5 years (1 year as intern)

What do you enjoy most about working at TiVo?
The fun atmosphere. I like being able to work with people that are really good at what they do, but at the same time like to step back and have fun while they're doing it. So, it's good to bounce ideas off of really experienced people that also like to have fun.
Why'd you choose TiVo to start your career?
It was a fun place to work (as an intern), and it was also a chance to work with a very small team that was very hands on. So, right out of school I was able to get involved in a lot of different projects immediately. Other companies I looked at were much more focused on one little tiny area, whereas at TiVo, we're exploring lots of different concepts at the same time. And there are just lots of more opportunities for growth.
How has working here affected or influenced the way you watch television?
It makes me “better” at watching TV. I didn't have TiVo until I got here, so I was one of those people that would always miss my shows. TiVo makes things easy for me because I have all these other interests and things I like to do. So I just set the TiVo, and they're all lined up to watch when I do have time.
What would you say to upcoming graduates about working at TiVo?
Get your experience as soon as you can. Don't wait till you graduate to start working because they compliment each other. And when you finish, you'll already have a wealth of experience under your belt.

User Research, 2 years

What do you enjoy most about working at TiVo?
There really nice people here. It seems like they really care about each other here more so than at other companies. There's good camaraderie, good teamsmanship and people pitch in to help each other out.
How is working at TiVo different from other jobs you've had?
At other companies, where you don't get that close to people, you really get to know your coworkers here. When you're working on something together, you start to be able to read each other's minds and stuff like that, which makes it easier to do your job.
How has working at TiVo affected or influenced the way you watch television?
I don't watch television that much, but when I do it's just back-to-back. So like a marathon of Glee or something like that.
What advice would you give to someone on their first day at at TiVo?
Don't hesitate to ask anybody for help, because they will definitely offer it. People are open -- they're friendly, they're willing to work for you and they're flexible. So, if you're trying to get your sea legs, it's going to be very easy to reach out, ask for help and get it.
