Yes, you can expand your recording capacity with an external hard disk that attaches to your TiVo HD DVR. The Western Digital My DVR Expander provides space to record up to 65 additional hours of high-definition shows (or 600 hours of standard definition shows) at one time. The device connects to your TiVo DVR using the E-SATA port on the back of your DVR.

- Will the Series3 HD box work with my cable company's interactive program guide and video on demand services?
The TiVo Series3 HD DVR supports digital cable, over-the-air digital antenna (ATSC), analog cable, and analog antenna. You will need two (2) single-stream CableCARDs to receive HD and digital channels. Without CableCARDs, you will still be able to receive standard definition analog cable channels, as well as analog and digital antenna channels.
The TiVo Series3 HD DVR can be set up to work in any of the following configurations:
- Digital cable only

- What outputs are supported on the TiVo Series3 HD DVR?

- Does the TiVo Series3 HD work with satellite programming?
The TiVo Series3 HD DVR is designed for cable and CANNOT support satellite programming. For customers with satellite service, TiVo offers the TiVo Series2 Dual Tuner DVR in standard definition.
- What is a CableCARD™ decoder?
A CableCARD decoder allows a digital TV or set top box to receive Digital Cable programming from your cable provider. It's about the size of a thick credit card, and fits into a special slot built into the TiVo HD DVR.
To receive two digital cable channels at the same time, the TiVo Series3 HD DVR will require two (2) single-stream CableCARDs. You will need to contact your cable provider to request CableCARD decoders. All major cable companies are FCC mandated to provide CableCARDs to their digital cable subscribers. Some cable companies offer CableCARDs for free and others charge a small monthly fee.
- What are the USB ports for?
The USB ports are for connecting the DVR to your home network with the TiVo wireless adapter.
- Can I use any wireless network adapter on my TiVo Series3 HD DVR?
No, only the TiVo wireless adapter allows a wireless connection to your home network. The TiVo wireless adapter can be purchased separately at tivo.com and most retailers.
- How is TiVo Series3 HD different from the TiVo HD DVR?
Both products are designed on the Series3 architecture so the core TiVo functionality is the same. However, the TiVo Series3 HD DVR offers a bigger hard drive (250GB compared to 180GB), THX® certification, a front panel display, and a programmable, backlit TiVo Glo remote control.
- How is TiVo Series3 HD different from the TiVo Series2 DVR?
The TiVo Series3 HD DVR supports digital and high definition programming from cable and antenna. The TiVo Series2 DVR supports only standard definition from cable, cable with a box, or satellite with a box. Both DVRs can be connected to either a standard TV or an HD TV, but only a TiVo Series3 or TiVo HD DVR can display in high definition on your HD TV. The TiVo Series3 HD has more than three times the recording capacity of the TiVo Series2 DVR.
- Can I connect the TiVo Series3 HD to a regular TV that doesn’t support HD?
The front panel displays a clock and the titles of shows that are currently recording on your TiVo Series3 HD DVR. There are additional lights to indicate remote control and download activity. The front panel is also used to display the video resolution when you use the format button on the front panel to change modes.

No, the TiVo Series3 HD does not support 1394 (Firewire) outputs.
- Does the TiVo Series3 HD DVR work with my cable company's video-on-demand and pay-per-view services?
No. In order to use certain advanced and interactive digital cable services such as video-on-demand, enhanced program guide, and pay-per-view services you would need to use a separate cable company-provided set-top box. - What else do I need besides the TiVo Series3 HD DVR?
You need a subscription to the TiVo service, along with either a phone line or a home network connected to a high-speed Internet connection, a TV source (cable or antenna) and, of course, a TV (HD TV recommended).
